Janis Ila Armstrong, 81, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Shady Oaks Baptist Church. Private family interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
Janis was born March 30, 1928, in Roxton to Cornelia and Jasper Liles. She married Tom Armstrong in 1946 in Paris, Texas. In their almost 64 years of marriage, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a longtime member of Shady Oaks Baptist Church. As a previous member of Tarrant Road Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Hurst, she taught second-grade Sunday school class for over 30 years. Janis' love for traveling allowed her to visit all 50 states, enjoy cruises and travel abroad. She loved cooking, family gatherings and caring for her family.
Survivors: Husband, Tom Armstrong; daughter, Carol Jackson and husband, Odie; son, Thomas Armstrong and wife, Marsha; grandchildren, Christopher Drenowatz and wife, Christy, Clint Armstrong and wife, Deborah, Craig Drenowatz and wife, Janelle, Grant Armstrong and wife, Katy, Matt Armstrong and fiancee, Emily, and Jarrod Jackson and wife, Wendi; great-grandchildren, Madison Drenowatz, Brooke Drenowatz, Colt Armstrong, Sara Armstrong, Chloe Armstrong and Wilson Jackson; brothers, Joe Liles and wife, Camilla, and Chuck Liles and wife, Peggy; sister, Julia Braaten; and numerous extended family, church family, friends and neighbors.
