He was married on February 11, 1936 to Lovely Myrtle Freeman who passed away May 4, 2002. A master craftsman, he worked many years at Tennessee Eastman (Kodak). Upon his retirement in 1976, he returned to his home place in Rye Cove (Scott County), VA (the home had been in the family for over 200 years) where he farmed for the remainder of his life. He had 2 daughters, Shelley Joan Carter Kestner born Nov. 10, 1939, and Judy Lynn Carter Miller born October 14, 1945, 2 grandchildren, Craig Alan Kestner born July 20, 1961, and Kristy Joan Kestner Taylor born Feb. 17, 1965, and 1 great-grandchild, Christopher Lee Taylor born Nov. 26, 1987.
