"James Melvin Crockett, was a farmer and stockman, raising pure blooded cattle. He lived most of his life on land granted to his father in 1850.

James, was a quiet, modest man, but one devoted to the interest of his community, served on school boards, road commissions, and had an active part in all public affairs that promoted the welfare of his country.

He was especially noted for being a good nurse in cases of illness and was not afraid of contagious diseases, often risking his own life for that of a friend or neighbor.

He was much beloved by all who knew him."
