BYRON - Merrill Wilson, 71, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010. Services will be held at 3P.M. Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Chamlee Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. R. D. Michael, Dr. Robert Bowman, Rev. Chad Biship and Rev. Daniel Stubbs officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Saturday, March 27, 2010 in the sanctuary of Chamlee Memorial Baptist Church, 1502 Knoxville Street in Fort Valley. -Born December 26, 1938 in Glenn, Georgia, to the late James Olin Wilson Sr. and Marietta Adams Wilson, Mr. Wilson was a graduate of Heard County High School and attended Georgia Southern College. He was a member of Chamlee Memorial Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School Director, Deacon and many other capacities. He was also a member of Glenn Baptist Church where he served on the building committee. He was retired from Marion A. Allen Insurance Company and was self-employed with Wilson Insurance Agency until the day he died. He coached Little League with the Jaycees and the Peach County Recreation Department in the 1960's and 1970's. -Survivors include his wife of over 49 years, Carolyn J. Wilson of Byron; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Alicia Wilson of Fort Valley and daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Michael Lehr of LaGrange; granddaughters, Katryn Nicole Lehr, Elizabeth Janet Lehr and Makalynn Lehr, all of LaGrange; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Marty Wilson of Merritt Island, Florida, and Andrew and Gail Wilson of Bowman; and sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Gerald Smith of Evans, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son, John Wilson. -Family may be contacted at the home of Tim and Alicia Wilson, 701 Park Avenue in Fort Valley. -Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley is in charge of arrangements.
