He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from December 26, 1942 to October 4, 1944, and a member of American Legion Post 34, and DAV Post 37, both of Reading, MA. He was a member of Church of Christ, Palm Harbor.
He married Elsie on July 2, 1938 in Reading, MA but they divorced on March 16, 1942.
He married Melba Corey on October 19, 1942 in Hartford, CT but they later divorced.
He married Madeline Savard in MA who preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Sr of Holiday, and Richard Jr of Winchester, MA; two daughters, Brenda J Ripa of Lady Lake and Katherine Valeriani of Stoneham, MA.; a stepdaughter, Madeline Farley of Reading; a brother, Bernard Bailey of Palm Harbor; twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Burial is in Mtn View Cemetery.
