During WW II, he was drafted into the US Navy. He served on a Rocket Boat during D-Day landings at Normandy, and on LSTs during landings in Southern France and Okinawa, Japan.

He worked for the Erie RR in Marion, Ohio most of his life, retiring as a freight conductor.
