John was a rural school teacher at Maple Grove, Audubon and Hamden for several years. He then operated the County Infirmary with his sister Helen for six years. He graduated from Chicago College of Dental Surgery and started his practice in Detroit Lakes in 1904. In August 1944,he completed his 40th year as a dentist and was awarded a life-time membership by the Minnesota Dental association.
