Edgar "Eddie" Rhea Newby Sr., 69, of Decatur, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at his residence.
He retired from TVA, and also retired from Laborers International Union Local 846 in Chattanooga. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and was Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Newby and Ruby Hutson Newby; and one son, Edgar Rhea Newby Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Newby of Decatur; one brother, Sam Newby of Georgetown; two sisters, Stella Stallings of Manila, Ark., and Betty Stokes of Cleveland; three grandchildren, Krystal, Shelby and Logan Newby, all of Shreveport, La.; special friends, the Rev. David Evans and wife, Sue; and one special nephew, Wally McDowell of Decatur.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home with the Rev. David Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Johnston Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Dude Minnis, Jim Gann, Dennis Gann, Ricky McDowell, Jonathan Rodgers and Danny Fowler.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Bowers Funeral Home of Decatur is in charge of arrangements.
