George Bruna, age 86, of Gladbrook and formerly of rural Toledo, died on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo due to a short illness. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Monday, July 30, 2007 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Traer with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM Monday, July 30, 2007 at the church. George Bruna was born on February 3, 1921, in rural Toledo, the son of Frank and Anna (Husak) Bruna Sr. He graduated 8th grade from Tama County Public Schools on June 6, 1935. George farmed in Howard Township, north of Toledo and worked for several area farmers. He was especially proud of his Century Farm accomplishment. He also enjoyed gardening. George was a devoted brother and enjoyed going to Bishops to eat with his brother, Frank. He had a talent of remembering people and history of the community. He loved messing around with all kinds of electronics, from radios, hearing aides, remote controlled cars, to television remotes. George was a kind hearted, caring person. Preceding him in death were his parents; three half-brothers, Eddie, Will and Frank Bruna; and one half-sister, Tillie Hines. Survivors include his nieces, Karen (Al) Mueller of Council Bluffs and Doretta Cunningham of Marshalltown; great nieces and a great nephew. A memorial fund has been established.
