Abbott, Eugene R., 86, retired precision machinist for Beech and American Airlines passed away Friday evening January 23, 2009. Born in Smith Center, KS to Charlie R. and Myrtle (Bell) Abbott on October 17th, 1922. Eugene served his country in the Navy during WWII. He enjoyed bowling in leagues for many years, gardening, playing the guitar and banjo and yodeling. Eugene donated over ten gallons of blood over 30 years of his life to the American Red Cross. After leaving the Navy he attended Mortuary College, and worked in the funeral industry for a few years. Later he would become a machinist for Beech Aircraft as a precision grinder, then took a job with American Airlines and moved to Tulsa, OK until he retired. He enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Canada with his wife. He moved to Haysville, KS in 2002. Eugene is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation is from 4 to 6 P.M. Tues.
