On May 25, 1889 following a brief illness, Maggie Johnson, daughter of Andrew and Martha Scott Johnson, died in Fostoria, Ohio at the tender young age of 16. At that time there was no church in the city for negroes. The Rev. John H. Meadows, pastor of the Third Baptist Church of Toledo, Ohio, was called to conduct the funeral service.
