Luther Thomas Woodard, 16-year-old son of Luther Woodard of Wardell, was killed early Wednesday afternoon when a mule he was riding bolted and young Woodard's foot caught in a trace chain, dragging him nearly half a mile, according to information reaching here yesterday.
His skull was fractured in several places and he died about an hour after the accident.
The youth had been working Wednesday morning on a farm, one of the Portage Farms, Inc., tracts, and had started home for lunch when something frightened the mule, causing him to bolt and throw his rider.
Young Woodard was born and raised near Wardell.
Funeral services were conducted at the Dry Bayou church yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Interment was in Dry Bayou cemetery.
