S. P. Lett Dies At Noel Thursday

S. P. Lett, 78 years old, former McDonald county surveyor, died at his home at Noel at 9 o'clock Thursday night. Mr. Lett was born in Newton county, Kansas and moved to this county when young. He served as surveyor of McDonald county for 50 years and was active in Republican politics. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Cora Lett; three daughters, Mrs. Marie Renner of Anderson, Mrs. Ellen Crispin and Mrs. Fern Short of Southwest City; four sons Donald Lett of Noel, Bob Lett of Oakdale, Calif., Jack Lett and Harry Lett of Southwest City; one brother Flavious Lett of Neosho, 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Noel Baptist church. Burial was Saratoga cemetery.

Biographical Notes:
Sampson Preston Lett married Cora Bessie Gunlock on September 9, 1902, in Carthage, Jasper County, MO, and they had seven children. He was a McDonald County MO highway engineer, a fisherman, and a Baptist. He was the son of Walter Goodhue and Rebecca Ellen (Wolfe) Lett.

The children of Samp and Cora were: Marie Elizabeth (Renner), Donald Richard, Ellen Rosa (3 marriages: Francisco-Crispin-Renner), Robert Preston, Walter Jack, Harry Whitten, Illa Fern (Short).

Note: Marie Elizabeth is buried in Hazelgreen Cemetery, Boulder City, Newton, MO currently under misnamed "Morie" Renner with her husband Ernest Samuel Renner.
