A memorial service for Hannah O. Skarstad, 88, of Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth, was held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 10, 1996 at Zumbro Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lester J. Horntvedt officiating. Private entombment is in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Rochester, MN.

Hannah, a retired registered nurse, died Wednesday, May 8 of natural causes at Samaritan Bethany Home.

She was born June 8, 1907 in Kenyon, MN. Hannah grew up in Kenyon and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1924. She attended teacher's training and taught school in Kenyon for two years. She moved to Rochester and graduated from the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing, and worked at Worrall Hospital and at Rochester Methodist when it opened, until her retirement in 1974.

Hannah married Irvin J. Skarstad on July 10, 1935 in Kenyon. He owned and operated Skarstad Turkey Hatchery which later became Rochester Turkey Hatchery, Inc. He retired in 1967 and died on Nov. 24, 1986.

Hannah was a member of the Methodist-Kahler Married Nurses Club, Zumbro Lutheran Church, the church women, the Samaritan Bethany Auxiliary, and the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include three sons, Howard of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Vern of San Antonio, TX, and David (Kathy) of St. Louis, MO, two daughters, Susan (Mrs. Richard) Mayfield of Dillon, CO, and Marjorie (Mrs. Buddy) Racca of Coon Rapids, MN; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian (Mrs. Hubert) Halling of Rochester, MN and Alma Voxland of Kenyon. Hannah was preceded in death by her husband, 3 brothers and 8 sisters.
