Alvin Leroy Pendergraft was born October 4, 1926, near Jane, Missouri. He was the first child of Jesse and Eva Chrisman Pendergraft. He attended the Brush Creek School near the family farm and later graduated valedictorian of his class at White Rock School in Jane. At age eighteen Alvin was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He served as an army cook in while stationed in Japan.

He married Lela Rich of Lincoln, Arkansas on August 12, 1951, in Siloam Springs. Alvin and Lela moved to El Dorado, Kansas where Alvin worked as a controlman for Skelly Oil Company. The couple later purchased a farm near Westville, Oklahoma where they raised beef cattle and poultry. Upon retirement, Alvin and Lela moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Alvin was a member of Harvard Avenue Baptist Church in Siloam Springs.

Alvin died June 16, 2009 in Springdale, Arkansas at age eighty-two. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dale, Clifford, and Jesse Pendergraft; three sisters, Goldie Pendergraft, Mable Wilkerson, and Ona Rupe; and two daughters, Frances Pendergraft and Barbra Sackett.

Survivors included his wife of nearly 58 years, Lela Pendergraft, of Siloam Springs; a daughter, Sherrie Williams and husband, Tommy, of Westville, Oklahoma; a sister, Elsie Davis of Centerton, Arkansas and two grandchildren, Luke Williams of Westville, Oklahoma, and Lagenna Bennett of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Services were held June 19 at Hart Funeral Home in Westville, Oklahoma, with Brother Tad Thomason and Brother Greg Dixon officiating. Burial was in Beaty Cemetery near Lincoln, Washington County, Arkansas.
