Clarice E. Baumgarten, age 86, died Wednesday, November 25, 1998 at the Evansville Manor Nursing Home. She was born on August 6, 1912 in Baraboo, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Harman) Mielke. Clarice married Arthur Baumgarten on March 22, 1947 in Baraboo, Wisconsin. She was a school teacher for many years in Baraboo and also worked for the Federal Land Bank. Clarice and Art moved to Evansville where they owned and operated Baumgarten Grocery Store for 35 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a former member of W.E.L.C.A. and Ruths Circle. She was an avid sports fan and loved being around her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Art, of Evansville; a son, David of Milwaukee; a grandaughter, Amy of Boulder, Colorado; a grandson, Andrew of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Mielke; and a brother-in-law, Art Stieve. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Cheryl; two sisters, Mrs. Leona Stieve and Mrs. Margaret Jedike; and a brother, Harold Mielke. Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Evansville. Burial followed in Walnut Hill cemetery in Baraboo.
