Philip married Mary Gleeson, the widow of James Gleeson, on Feb 2, 1831 in Clonoulty/Rossmore Parish Archdiocese of Emily and Cashel, Turraheen Lower, Tipperary, Ireland.

Philip Dwyer, at the age of 45, arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA on the Ship Sir Henry Pottinger on December 28, 1848, that had departed from Bristol, England. He arrived with his wife Mary and his stepson Thomas Gleeson and children: Patrick, Michael, Timothy, Hanora, Mary, Andrew and Infant son John Dwyer.

Philip and Mary Dwyer, both were natives of the Emerald Isle, Ireland. Philip emigrated to America with his family, coming directly to St. Louis, where he engaged in the contracting business. About six years later on June 26, 1854,Philip and Mary purchased a farm of 160 acres just east of Millwood, Lincoln County, Missouri from Samuel J. McAtee where they took up residence. Philip returned to St. Louis after selling his farm on September 3, 1863 to George Dyer for $130. He spent his retirement until his death in St. Louis area. He died in 1880.
