Ex-Convis Men Die In D. C.
An 89-year old retired farmer and his 85-year old nephew died within a few hours of each other Friday morning at a Battle Creek convalescent home where they both had been staying for about three years.
They were Nelson P. Coats, whose sister, Maria (Coats) Aley, was the mother of Henry Aley, the nephew. Mr. Coats died at 6:10 a. m. five hours before his nephew.
The two elderly men had been raised together on the Convis township homestead six miles north of Marshall, where they were both born. Mr. Aley was born April 14, 1866 and was married in 1890 to Lilly McIntyre. After his retirement he came to Marshall to live, returning to Battle Creek three years ago.
Mr. Coats was born February 12, 1862, the son of Justin and Mercy Coats. He also came to Marshall following his retirement in 1936, returning to Battle Creek three years ago.
Funeral services for Mr. Aley will be held at the Kelser funeral home, Monday at 3:30 p. m. Funeral services for Mr. Coats will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Farley funeral home in Battle Creek. Burial services for both will be held at Porter Cemetery, Convis township.
