She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herbert Fred Abeln, (Married June 5, 1948), one (1) son-in-law, William, and one (1) sibling, Lyone "Fritz" A. Johnston.
She is survived by four (4) children, Linda Cannady Tossing, of St. Louis County, Missouri, Herbert Dennis (Donna) Abeln, of Ballwin, Missouri, David Charles (Peggy Ray) Abeln, of San Diego, California, Lawrence James Abeln, of St. Louis County, Missouri, eleven (11) grandchildren, Tomas, Peter, Dan, Karen, Sara, Jason, Amanda, Peri, Michael, Katie, and Wesley, two (2) great-grandchildren, Sam and Eli, one (1) brother, Daniel Edward (Frieda) Ficken, of Jefferson County, Missouri, and many other relatives and friends.
Lydia was a member of St. John UCC, in Manchester, a reservation agent for T.W.A. and an active member of Lafayette Area Optimist Club and T.W.A. Seniors and Operation Lift off. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Leader. Lydia traveled the world, collected over 500 turtles, enjoyed sewing, hiking, horseback riding and reading. She helped set up a book club at Cape Abeon. Lydia is fondly remembered and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
