Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Thomas Gentry and Effie Herbert Barton.
Mr. Barton retired from Southern Weaving in April 1988, was a life-long member of Woodside Baptist Church and a member of Barrac Sunday School Class.
Ray served in the Navy during World War II and was a Mason.
He is survived by his children, Marshall Barton and wife, Shelia, of Easley, Michael Barton and wife, Linda, of Piedmont, Karen Barton Hooper and husband, Jimmy, of Travelers Rest, and Lake Barton and wife, Tina, of Townville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Lillie Barnette.
Mr. Barton was predeceased by one grandchild; three sisters; and four brothers.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at Graceland West Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodside Baptist Church, 301 Woodside Avenue, Greenville, SC 29611.
