Gideon Murphy Speir, native of Brewton, Ala, where he was born September 28, 1887, died at his home in Hurley Wednesday afternoon after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Speir ived many years in Biloxi before making his home in Hurley where he was a resident for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Pait Speir, one daughter, Mrs. Douglas Mizelle of Hurley, a step son, Jessie McDonald, of Marvella, a step daughter, Mrs. Sallie Thurman, Pensacola and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Ray Cotton, New Orleans, his sisters, Misses Margaret and Alice Speir of Biloxi and numberous grand children.
The wake was held at the Mizelle home in Hurley.
Mr. Speir was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hurley where the body will lie in state from one until three o'clock. Rev. Lyles of the Baptist Church and Grady Mizelle will officiate at the funeral. Interment will be in the Coleman Cemetery.
