Sarah Du Bois McDonald was 56 years old at the time of her death, therefore she was born around 1740; she was baptized on May 27, 1741. Sarah was the wife of Michael McDonald and the mother of twelve children: Margarita, Catarina, Jesse, James, John, Betsey, Michael, Alexander, Susan, Rebecca, Sarah, and Anna Maria (aka Polly).

According to The American Descendants of Chretien Du Bois, Sarah was a direct lineal descendant of this French nobleman. Her ancestors lost their titles when they converted from Roman Catholicism to Reformed Christianity.

Sarah's ancestors moved from the village of Wicres, France (not far from Lille), to Belgium; several later emigrated to America. Her line of descent in this distinguished Huguenot family is as follows:

Chretien Du Bois m Cornelia ____

Louis Du Bois m Catherine Blanchan (this generation emigrated from Europe to America)

Mattheus Du Bois m Sarah Matthyssen

Jesse Du Bois m Elizabeth Lewis/Liewis

Sarah was therefore part of the fourth generation of Du Bois in America.
