Dora was the daughter of Elijah Perry Anderson, a Civil War Veteran with Co. I, 79th Regiment Indiana Infantry and Mary Catherine Henry. She is a descendant of John Anderson, the immigrant, who acquired by grant, June 3, 1738, 747 acres of land in Augusta County, Virginia.
Dora was a very religious lady and a charter member who helped start the First Church of the Nazarene. Before she died, she was the oldest living charter member at the time.

Dora Thurston Buried At Kokomo
Final rites were held Wednesday for Mrs. Dora Beatty Thurston, who died Monday at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. The deceased had been a resident of Kokomo since 1910.
She was born September 1872, in Ladoga, Indiana, daughter of Perry and Mary Anderson and married Stanford Beatty August 4, 1889. He passed away December 7, 1932.
January 4, 1941, she married Mr. Thurston, who survives with nine children, George, Paul and Noah Beatty of Kokomo, Ansel of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Wilford, Louisville Kentucky, Mrs. Ethel Hight, Peru, Mrs. Pearl Simmerman, Clearwater, Florida, Mrs. Zelma Ward and Mrs. Bonnie Hittle, both of Kokomo. There are 35 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and five great- great grandchildren. Fred and Ronnie Thurston, Mrs. Opal Harris, Mrs. Bertha Hight and Mrs. Bessie Martin, all of Kokomo survive.
Mrs. Thurston was a charter as well as the oldest member of the First Church of the Nazarene, and had been faithful in attendance and the various church activities until her health failed.
Funeral services were conducted at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. M.K. Millikan, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in the Sharpsville Cemetery.
