Frederick Tieman emigrated with his parents from Germany in 1846 at the age of 5. They arrived at the port of Galveston and settled in Fayette Co., Texas, where they farmed until the outbreak of the Civil War. He married Maria Elizabeth Giese in LaGrange, Texas on 13 Jan 1861.
Enlisted in 12th Illinois Cavalry, 17 Dec 1862, Cairo, IL. Discharged from military service, 16 Dec1865, Houston, TX. Moved to Chicago, ILL., area about 1870. Served on Lake Township (Englewood) Police Department.
