He was a US Army Veteran of WWII who served with the 94th Infantry Division in northern France, The Ardennes, Germany, Luxembourg, and Czechoslovakia as part of Patton's Third Army. He was a retired rigger at Charleston Naval Shipyard and a member of Midway Baptist Church. He was married 54 years.

He died in a Summerville hospital.
