Louis J. Aholt ~ Louis J. Aholt, beloved husband of Anna Aholt, nee Droege, entered into rest at his home 1013 W. Fifth St., Washington, on Wednesday, July 17th, 1940, at 5:30 p.m. His health and eyesight had been failing for the past few years and during the recent week he had been confined to his bed. Mr. Aholt was born in Hopwell, Missouri, on May 12, 1863. When he was three years of age the family moved to a farm five miles west of Washington, where he attended a nearby parochial school He was confirmed in the St. Ignatius Catholic Church at Concord Hill where he completed his education. He grew to manhood on the farm west of Washington and on Nov. 10, 1885, he was united in marriage to Anna Droege. Mr. Aholt resided on the home place until the year 1901 when he bought the Wm. Detmer farm, located three miles west of Washington. In the year 1916 he retired from active farming, and moved to Washington where he spent the remainder of his life. He and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the year 1935, with a Solemn High Mass at the St. Francis Borgia Church. He had established a wide acquaintanceship throughout the community, being noted for his honesty and sincerity and was held in high esteem by his beloved ones. During the year of his farming career, he was a capable and industrious manager, successful and well versed in this enterprise. He was a devout and faithful Catholic and took great interest in the activities of the Church. He was a member of the St. Francis Borgia Church School Society and Third Order of St. Francis. He was precede in death by two daughters, Eleanor, who died in early childhood and Mrs. Geo. Peirick, who passed away on July 2nd, 1937. Besides his wife, he leaves the following children: Hugo Aholt, Washington; Mrs. Julia Swoboda, Peers; Mrs. Emily Uhlenbrock, Washington; Clem Aholt, Kirkwood; Leo Aholt, Union; Sister May Charlene,, Madison, Wisconsin; Sister Mary Ventura,, Chicago, Ill.; and Mrs. Celeste Shelton, Union. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday morning, July 20th, 1940, 8:30 a.m, from the Nieburg and Vitt funeral Home Washington, and 9:00 a.m., at the St. Francis Borgia Church. Interment was in the Church Cemetery.

Dies July 17 at His Home - Funeral Services Were Conducted Saturday; Was 77 years - Louis J. Aholt, beloved husband of Anna Aholt (nee Droege), entered into rest at his home, 1013 W. Fifth St., on Wednesday, July 17, 1940, at 5:30 p.m. His health and eyesight were failing for the past several years, and during the recent week was bed confined. Mr. Aholt, who attained the age of 77 years, 2 months and 5 days, at the time of his death, was born in Hopewell, Mo., on May 12, 1863. When he was three years of age, the family moved to a farm five miles west of Washington, where he attended a nearby parochial school. He was confirmed in the St. Ignatius Catholic church at Concord hill where he completed his education. He grew to manhood on the farm west of Washington, and on November 10, 1885, he was united in marriage to Anna Droege. Mr. Aholt resided on the home place until the yer 1901, when he bough the Wm. Detmer farm, located 3 miles west of Washington. In the year 1916 he retired from active farming, and moved in Washington where he spent the remainder of his life. This marriage was blessed with ten children, eight of who survive his departure. Mr. and Mrs. Aholt celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the year 1935 with a Solemn High Mass at the St. Francis Borgia church, signifying fifty years of happy wedded life. Deceased established a wide-acquaintanceship throughout this community, being noted for his honesty and sincerity, and was held in high esteem by his beloved ones. He was a devoted husband and father, no sacrifice being too great in the interest of his family and dear ones, in whose memory he will linger with deepest thoughts. During the years of his farming career, he was a capable and industrious manager, successful and well versed in this enterprise. He was a devout and faithful Catholic and took great interest in the church activities. Mr. Aholt was a member of the St. Francis Borgia church, School Society and Third Order of St. Francis. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Eleanor, who died in early childhood, and Mrs. Geo. Peirick, who passed away on July 2, 1937.
