ANDERSON — Johnny D. Wheeler, 66, departed this life on March 28, 2010, after an extended illness. He was born June 24, 1943, in Troy, Ala., to Lucy Boswell and Clem Wheeler.

Johnny loved being around his family, fishing, hunting, working in the garden and watching sports on television. He played several sports in his lifetime and coached several girls' softball leagues. He was very generous and would go out of his way to help anyone. He was employed at General Motors and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 662. He retired in 2006, after 30 years of service.

He leaves three very special cousins, who were raised up with him like sisters and brothers . . ..

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Clem Wheeler and Lucy Boswell; one brother, Leon Wheeler; and four sisters, Thelma Boswell, Anise Rayford, Elsie Gibson and Viola Lewis.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Badash and his staff, and to the staff of Community Northview Center for the loving care provided to our loved one.

Services will be held at noon on Saturday, April 10, at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 615 Henry St., Anderson, with Dr. Thomas J. Robinson and the Rev. Ocie Poole officiating. Burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and viewing on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to L.C. May Funeral Services.
