OBITUARY of David McCorkle:
David McCorkle, 87, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, in Greenwood. David never met a stranger and was devoted to helping others by visiting people in nursing homes and the hospital. David was a greeter and deacon at First Baptist Church in Greenwood and his personality, kind smile and firm handshake always made people feel at home.
He retired from Garrison Furniture, where he was a machine operator and finish sander for 37 years.
David was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen McCorkle. He is survived by sons, Bill McCorkle and his wife, Susan of Central City and Jack McCorkle and his wife, Vickey of Waverly, Tenn. He is also survived by his grandson, Tim McCorkle and his wife, Amber of Lavaca and granddaughter, Amber Tipton and her husband, Chris; and great-grandson, Logan Riley Tipton of Asheville, N.C. David is also survived by his sister-in-law, Laverne McCorkle of Greenwood.
Viewing will be today from 1 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at First Baptist Church in Greenwood with burial at Cross Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tim McCorkle, Todd McCorkle, W.J. McCorkle, Terry McCorkle, Bob Sadler and Steve Caperton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 635, Greenwood, AR 72936; or Peachtree Hospice, 4300 Rogers Ave., Suite 33, Fort Smith, AR 72903.
