Willard was a Farmer. For many years he owned and operated a hardware store in Mt. Union, at the south end of Alliance, Ohio and lived on his farm just south of town.
Late in life, after a divorce, Willard married (2) Alice Ludlum and lived in Alliance.
Willard died at S. Side Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, from injuries received when he was hit by a tractor-trailer rig which jumped the curb and hit him while he was waiting to cross the street.
