Austin D (Pete) Brewer, Jr., age 54, of 444 N. Mills Ave., Arcadia, died Saturday morning of a massive heart attack in Arcadia General Hospital.
He was born in DeSoto County, and attended DeSoto County schools. He had worked for Arcadia Motor Company and Gulf Naval Stores in recent years.
At the time of his death, he was employed by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff.
Brewer had run unsuccessfully for the Sheriff’s office two years ago.
He was popular and well-liked throughout the county and had a ready smile and good word for all.
He suffered his heart attack after going to work Saturday morning, and was rushed to the hospital. But immediately upon arriving there he suffered another which was fatal.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Earline Brewer, two daughters, Mrs. Joann Jackson, Jr. of Bartow and Miss Penny Sue Brewer of Arcadia; his mother Mrs. Earnest Brewer, one sister, Mrs. Earl Wooten, all of Arcadia; and two grandchildren Bartow.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 22, at 3:00 p.m. from Robarts-Grady Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Taylor officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard Barnard, O.F. Tanner, Carroll Crews, Delma Allen, Dewey Moffitt and Frank Cline. Honorary Pallbearers were Carroll Daughtrey, Seymour Jessup, Earl Barbard, Harold Garner, Luke Robertson, Alton Latimer, Sonny Huff, Glenn Robertson, and Bill Trawick, Ray Hall, Jim Henderson, Carl Adamson, and James Cassels of the Sheriff’s Department.
Robarts-Grady Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
