A spinster who lived alone, she was the vicim of a home robbery, brutally murdered and found in the charred ruins of her home. The crime was never solved.

The daughter of Rev. Edward E. and Catherine "Kitty" (Gartrell) Otis, former IL residents, she had several siblings who preceded her in death.
Her father, a pioneer preacher for the Baptists in this portion of Iowa along wIth Elder J. M. Smith traveled many miles of unknown territory, Often they were surrounded Indians, but they were not alarmed or harmed. Rev. Otis became a successful minister of the Baptist organization in Washington township.
Left to mourn her passing were 3 brothers, John, Ezekiel, and Merrill Otis; and 7 sisters: Marilla Lavery, Sarah Ann Gartrell, Mary Jane Cole, Ada E. Freeman, also buried in Washington Cemetery, Misses Louisa, Alice and Christina Anna Otis.
