Andrew J. Anderson, 66 years old, who for a number of years has been a valued employe at the Bookstege Furniture factory, died at St. Mary's hospital at 7 o'clock yesterday morning after suffering for five months with cancer of the stomach. He is survived by his wife and one brother.
During the five months of his illness Mr. Anderson several times showed a little improvement and even returned to his work, but last week grew so much worse that on Monday afternoon he was taken to St. Mary's hospital. Wednesday an operation was performed in the hope of saving his life, but he was unable to rally and died yesterday morning after suffering great agony.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the order of Odd Fellows and for a number of years has been prominently connected with church work at Parke Memorial church, where he has taught a Sunday School class.
Mr. Anderson was well known throughout the city as a man of strong character and his life work will leave its impress in the community.
The funeral services will be held at Parke Memorial church Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. Mr. Brashears. The burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery.
