A. Wegner Dies of Heart Attack

August Wegner, 85, died suddenly at his home, 623 Oregon Street, at 6:30 o'clock Wednesday evening. Death, which was attributed to a heart attack, came while he was sitting in a rocking chair before the evening meal. He had worked at his trade of a blacksmith until noon Wednesday, when he complained to his wife of not feeling well and did not return to his place of business.

He was born in Germany, Sittnow East Prussia, November 16, 1845, and came to the United States April 27, 1868, and settled in this city. After coming to Lafayette, he took employment with the late Joseph Biehn, for whom he worked about one year. He first started in the wagon and plow business for himself on North Second Street, then moved to his present location, 121 South Second Street, about 30 years ago, where he had been in business ever since. He was a lifelong member of the St. James Lutheran Church. He was married to Mary Schmid, July 29, 1877.

Surviving are the widow, Maria K. Wegner; six daughters, Elenora, Augusta, Minnie, Rosalia, Edith and Mrs. Henry Prien, all of this city. Also one son, August, of Lafayette survives along with a brother, John Wegner, of Renville, Minn. Ten grandchildren also survive.

The body was taken to the Soller & Son funeral home to be prepared for burial and will be returned to the family home at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon, where friends may call until time for funeral services which have not been completed. Friends are asked to please omit flowers.
