Gilbert Louis Stitz, 39 years old, son of Louis Stitz, of this city, died at his home in Lakewood, O., Saturday morning, after a brief illness with double pneumonia. His father and his sister, Miss Gertrude Stitz, were with him when he died.
The son of Louis and Hulda Sattler Stitz, he was born in this city, March 16, 1895. His mother died when he was two and one-half years old. He attended St. James Lutheran school and was confirmed as a member of St. James Lutheran church. He was graduated from Jefferson High school in 1913, and was graduated from the school of mechanical engineering at Purdue university in 1918. He enlisted and served as a soldier in the World war, but was not sent overseas.
Mr. Stitz was united in marriage to Miss Clara Jurska, of Logansport, in August, 1919. He was formerly employed by the Johns-Manville company. Surviving are the widow, a daughter, Carolyn, of Lakewood; his father, stepmother, a sister, Gertrude, and a half-sister, Katherine, who is a junior at Purdue university.
The body will be brought to Lafayette early Monday and taken to the Stitz home, 912 South Eleventh street, where friends may call Monday afternoon and evening.
Short services will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with funeral services at St. James Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. P. G. Schmidt, Lutheran pastor, will officiate. Burial Springvale cemetery.
