Carl F. Hughes, 98, of Fountain Run, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at NHC in Glasgow.

A native of Monroe County, he was a son of the late Brud and Bassie Flowers Hughes. He lived most of his life in Fountain Run and managed Sprowls Lumber Mill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member and elder of the Fountain Run Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Gordon Hughes and his wife, Patti; one granddaughter, Ava Brooks; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Edison Hughes; nieces and nephews, James Hughes, Tim Hughes, Billy Clay Hughes, Nancy Lee, Martha Howard, Tommy Gumm, Butch Gibbs, Bob Gibbs, Nancy Sckelton and Sue Hughes; and many great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Pearl Howard Hughes; one sister, Geneva; four brothers, Henry, Lewis, Edison and Paul.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Fountain Run Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV.
