BENTON, Wis. -- Lawrence R. "Doc" Lovell, 71, of Benton, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 9, at St. Patrick's Church, Benton, with the Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Hazel Green. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
He was born on March 28, 1939, in Black River Falls, son of Eugene and Agnes (Murray) Lovell. He married Susan Perkins on May 7, 1966, in Hazel Green.
Lawrence was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Benton for 44 years, volunteered as a Cub Scout leader, was a member of the Benton Fire Department where he was one of Benton's first EMTs, and a member of the Benton School Board where he served as president during the late '80s.
He enjoyed playing baseball, both slow pitch and fast pitch, and was a member of the Old Timers softball team. He also enjoyed camping and loved to dance.
He worked at Truck Country in Shullsburg and Dubuque for 22 years until his retirement in 2001.
In recent years, "Papa Doc" loved spending time with his grandchildren. Their energy and enthusiasm gave him great joy. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Lovell; a son, Eric Lovell, of Benton; three daughters, Jennifer (Mark) Lewis, of Dubuque, Sara (Ken) Alderson, of Madison, and Melissa Lovell, of Platteville; three brothers, Gary Lovell, of Belmont, John "Jack" (Mary) Lovell, of Dubuque, and Michael (Jean) Lovell, of Hazel Green; two sisters, Maureen (Jerry) Fabian, of Little Falls, Minn., and Mary (Ron) Dankert, of Dubuque; his mother-in-law, Esther Perkins, of Platteville; a brother-in-law, John Perkins, of Benton; a sister-in-law, Margo Lovell, of Hazel Green; and nine grandchildren, Kimberleigh, Zachary, Dakota, Abby, Evan, Tanner, Patrick, Madison and Olivia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Agnes; two brothers, Tom and a twin, Leonard Lovell; two nieces, Lisa Geiger and Rebecca Lovell; and a sister-in-law, Joan Lovell.
