Ester Beck, 72, formerly of Rt. 2, Chesterton, died Sunday Aug. 19, at 6 a.m. in the Woodview Rehabilitation Center, Michigan City, where she had lived the last five years. She was the widow of Harold A. (Mike) Beck, who died April 4, 1961.
Services will be Wednesday, 1 p.m., at the Carl Edmonds Funeral Home where friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Chesterton cemetery, and the Rev. Paul Frankenfeld will officiate at the funeral.
Mrs. Beck had lived here most of her life, though she was born in Chicago, Feb. 19, 1907, a daughter of Spencer and Anna (Stephens) Turner. Orphaned early in life, she was raised by the Sievert family of Chesterton.
Surviving are a son Lawrence Beck of Chesterton; three daughters, Mrs. George Morton (Marjorie) and Mrs. Donald Werner (Loretta), both Michigan City, and Mrs. James Ammon, Jr. (Darlene), Santa Clara, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Oliver, William G., and Arthur Sievert, all Chesterton; and three sisters, Mrs. Elihu Mills (Hazel), Adrian, Mich., Mrs. Orval Swoverland (Irene) and Mrs. John Pliske (Frances), both Chesterton.
Mrs. Beck belongs to St. John's United church and was for many years active in the Pine Twp. Farm Bureau. She was also a member to American Legion Aux. Unit 37, Michigan City, and LaPorte County Salon 228, 8 et 40.
