J R Gilfoy, 54, Laid to Rest
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon, May 21, at 3 pm, from the First Baptist Church at Jackson for James Robert Gilfoy, prominent Jackson man, and a native of Houston, who died Tuesday, May 19, at his farmhouse in Holmes county of a heart attack, He was 54.
Mrs. Clint Paden, Mrs. Doris Neal, Mrs. Dick Crans and Mrs. Mary Hickman, all of Houston, attended the services. Interment was in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.
Gilfoy, the son of Mrs. Karenza Gilfoy, superintendent of the Baptist Hospital, Jackson, for many years, was a deacon in the First Baptist Church at Jackson. He was a former Commissioner of Public Safety, and belonged to a number of local and state organizations. He attended school in Houston and graduated from Mississippi Heights Academy at Blue Mountain in 1929, where he was a classmate with Sid Harris.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl; a daughter, Karen, director of choral music at Murrah and of St. James Episcopal Church choir; another daughter, Melinda; a son, Bob Gilfoy, III, student at the University of Mississippi; and his mother, Mrs. Karenza Gilfoy, retired superintendent of Mississippi Baptist Hospital in Jackson.
