Melinda's niece Ida Yocum is listed in the household of Melinda's daughter Savannah in 1920 and listed as "cousin." The 1910 census confirms that Ida is Jesse N. Yocum's daughter. This would seem to resolve the question of whether or not the Ann Yocum listed on the 1850 census in Franklin Co., AL is the same as our Melinda Ann Yocum.

A search of the 1850 census for AL reveals only one female child with name and age close to that of our Melinda Ann YOCUM and that is the one in Franklin Co., AL, in the family of Wash YOCUM [Ann age 3]. Wash was adjudicated insane by at least 1855. Nothing is known of his family after that date except for his possible location in the State Insane Asylum in 1870. Our Melinda Ann married Ransom Cass HOLLAND in 1872. W. C. ALLEN was appointed guardian of her minor children after 1887. This was William C. ALLEN, son of Niram A. ALLEN.

Melinda Ann's marriage in Baxter Co., AR, evokes a question, prompted by the following: "The History of Baxter Co., AR", states "Early settlers of Baxter Co., AR, were Yochums. Jake Yocum was one of the first settlers on the White River near Shipp's Ferry." He settled in Hole Bend of the river, now covered by the Bull Shoals Dam. The family burying ground, located on the site project, was moved to a new location. The question is: How does Melinda Ann's family tie in, if at all? Research has been done on site in Baxter County without making the connection.
