Edmond Lewis, born June 10, 1868*, was the second of four children born to the union of Sampson Lewis and Patsy Smith Lewis. He received his education and religious training at an early age in Clarksville, TX. This religious training led him to become a minister later in life.
Edmond united with the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Clarksville, TX, where he attended and delivered sermons for most of his life until his health failed and he was no longer able to do so.
On February 15, 1903, he married a beautiful young lady named Mattie Dixon, in Clarksville, TX. To this union, five sons and five daughters were born.
Edmond departed this life on February 24, 1949 at the age of 81 years. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Jim Lewis; one daughter, Bobbie Lee Lewis; and two sisters, Eliza Lewis Johnson, and Vinnie Lewis Humphress of Kansas City, KS.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mattie; five sons, Sampson, Zebidee, Oscar and Gavin Lewis, all of Clarksville, TX; and Jason Lewis of Stockton, CA; five daughters, Edna Lewis, Edwina Nelson, Lucille Lewis, and Ollivette Young, all of Clarksville, TX; and Barneta (Juanita) Behn of Paris, TX; one sister, Kate Lewis; 40 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services held on February 28, 1949 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Clarksville, TX.
