Adelmo J. "Del" Albano, age 77, (DFD Retired), of Danbury, husband of Rose (Russo) Albano, passed away peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Friday, April 9, 2010. Del was born in Danbury, a son of the late James and Lucrezia (DeLucia) Albano. He attended Danbury schools, graduated from Danbury High School and earned an Associates Degree in Fire Technology from Norwalk State Technical College. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He had worked for the post office and the City of Danbury Public Works Department before being appointed as a firefighter with the City of Danbury Fire Department, where he proudly served from June 6, 1963 to November 2, 1996, retiring at the rank of lieutenant. He was a longtime member of Local 801 Danbury Professional Firefighters Association, in which he had served as a past president, the International Association of Firefighters, the Danbury Association of Retired Firefighters, Amerigo Vespucci Lodge, Korean War Veterans Association and was a past president of the Danbury Council of Veterans and longtime member of St. Joseph Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who greatly enjoyed his three grandsons and his very large extended family. He was an avid hunter, loved to travel and had an amazing green thumb. In addition to his wife Rose, he is survived by two daughters, Laurie Albano and her partner, Nancy Liskiewicz of Bethel and Lisa Swift and husband, Ward of New Canaan; three grandsons, Brandon, Matthew and Justin Swift; two sisters, Molly Wright of Danbury and Gloria Barry of Newtown; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Gene Albano and four sisters, Jennie Manone, Frances Balzarini, Alba Conciatore and Yolanda Beers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to theA.L.S. Association Connecticut Chapter, 4 Oxford Rd., unit D4, Milford, CT 06460. The family would like to thank the Staff of Danbury Hospital especially Dr. Janaka Periyapperuma, Nurses Georgia Vrablik and Catherine Vagami and Nurses Aide, Terri Read, as well as the staff at Bethel Health Care.
