Known to friends of Bill W. world-wide, Alabam' had almost 39 years of sobriety and was invited to speak all over the world. When she lay dying in the hospital from colon cancer, friends lined the corridors of the hospital for two consecutive weeks to give her their love and prayers. She was a lady who really "walked it the way she talked it." As Corporate Secretary and Manager of The North Hollywood Group, Alabam' was especially gifted at helping newcomers stay sober. Alabam's maiden name was Helen Evelyn Robinson. She married George Marion Brown on Dec. 24, 1935. After he died, she married James Henderson Porter in 1956. He was killed in an auto accident a year and a week later. Finally, she married Al Carrothers and divorced him. She was eligible for membership in the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century by right of descent in the following line from Andrew Robeson (Robinson) who was born in Scotland in 1654, and resided in America prior to 1668 in the Colony of Pennsylvania. He died 19 February 1720 in Douglasville, PA. Alabam' was the daughter of Jesse Berryman Robinson, b. 19 Sep. 1872 at Waverly, Lee County, AL, d. Feb. 1953 in Opelika, AL, and Myrtie Mae Patrick, born 25 July 1886 at Waverly, Lee County, AL, d. Jan. 1978. Jesse and Myrtie were married 20 Mar. 1902 in Waverly, AL. Alabam' was a wonderful friend. My life was blessed with her time and love.
