Obituary from Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - April 8, 2010:
Thelma Elizabeth Lenz, 86, of Ashton, died April 5, 2010, in her home of natural causes.
Thelma was born August 27, 1923, the second of four children born to Fred and Selma Lenz, and was raised in the farming community of Squirrel, Idaho, east of Ashton. Her elementary schooling was in Kelly No. 6, a country school near the Lenz home. She boarded in Ashton to attend high school and graduated in 1941.
After returning from World War II, Norbert Lenz claimed her, his beloved "Jackie," as his bride on September 16, 1945. Their faithfulness and love for each other for nearly 65 years is cherished by their family. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ashton, where she served as organist for 55 years and was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Thelma enjoyed working as a cook at the Ashton Senior Center for several years after raising her family. Her interests were varied -- music, reading, baking, gardening, playing cards and studying the Bible.
Thelma's gracious life of kindness and service to others was evidence of her love for Jesus Christ. She trusted Him in life and in death. Her prayer was that all, especially her family, would know the peace of sins forgiven and the joy of eternal life in Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Norbert Lenz of Ashton; siblings, Maxine Troth of Lewistown, Mont., and Fred Lenz of Ashton; six children, Ardie Kelm (Roy) of Three Forks, Mont., Wayne Lenz of Ashton, LaVern Lenz (Irit) of Boise, Patti Schuldies (Darris) and Sharon Staeb (Rod), both of St. Anthony, and Elaine Lenz of Idaho Falls; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Michelle Staeb; her son, Clendon Lenz; and her sister, Viola Lenz.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashton. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Baxter Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Squirrel Cemetery. At Thelma's request, memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent to Lutheran World Relief, P.O. Box 17061, Baltimore, MD 21298-9832.
