He was born in Switzerland, September 14, 1837 and was the second son of Francis and Elizabeth Balo. He came with his parents, brothers and sisters to America in 1857.
He was married in 1866 to Miss Maria Newell, who died nine years ago. To this union were born nine children, of whom only three survive. They are: Mrs. William T. (Anna) Marquand, of Coshocton; Miss Carrie Balo, of the home and Joseph Balo, near the home. There are eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild living. Jacob Balo, of Adams Mills and Joseph Balo, of Mt. Vernon, brothers, survive.
The deceased was a veteran of the Civil War, being a member of Company H, 97th Regiment O. V. I. He served thruout the war.
