David R. Zamzow, 76, of Merrill, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

David was born Feb. 20, 1932, in Merrill, son of the late Raymond and Angela (Jaenke) Zamzow. He married Donna Muck on Oct. 6, 1956, in Merrill. She survives. Dave attended St. John Parochial School in Merrill, and later attended agricultural classes at the Vocational School in Merrill.

Dave farmed the home farm in the town of Scott with his parents from 1941 until he entered the U.S. Army in 1956. He spent one year in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1958. Upon his return, he took over the farm with his wife, Donna. Dave loved the land and was proud of his cattle. He also enjoyed horse shows, rodeos, and in his earlier years, he enjoyed horseback riding. Along with farming, he drove cattle trucks for VanDerGeest Livestock for a number of years.

Dave loved traveling with his camper, especially to the western states where he enjoyed the mountains and the rolling hills.

He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill, and a past member of the choir, the Planning Committee, and the Ushers Club.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Zamzow; two daughters, Jody (Mike) Woller and Julie Zamzow, and one son, Jeffrey (Kerri) Zamzow, all of Merrill; and three grandchildren, Jenna, Ali and Jack Zamzow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Angela Zamzow; and one brother, Raymond Zamzow Jr.

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. The Rev. Kelly Leary will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
