Arlen K. Bailey, 55, Mandan, died April 5, 2004. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Glencoe Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Burnie Kunz officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home.
Arlen was born in Bismarck, N.D., April 25, 1948, to Roy and Martha (Harju) Bailey. Living briefly in Steele, he grew up in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School. He married Judy Burtts on Jan. 7, 1967, to whom he was married for more than 37 happy years.
Arlen made a career in the construction industry for 36 years. He built numerous buildings in the Bismarck/Mandan area and throughout North and South Dakota. He became a bricklayer under the late Larry Burns of Bismarck, and later set out on his own forming Bailey Masonry of Mandan. He later entered the general contracting business with his brothers, Bernie, Eric and Greg, forming Bailey Construction, Inc., of Mandan. He was currently the owner/operator of General Masonry, Inc., of Mandan.
Arlen enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He conducted his life in quiet dignity, accepting no rewards for his accomplishments other than the satisfaction of a job well done.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; his sons, Roy, and wife, Julie, Hereford, Ariz., and Jon, Mandan; five grandchildren, Jessica, Roy Keith, Brooke, Jack and Jordan; five brothers, Bernie (Cheryl), Bismarck, Eric, Bismarck, Greg (Carol), Baldwin, Ira (Kim), Moorhead, Minn., and Joe (Susan), West Fargo; three sisters, Corinne (Mark) McKibben, Gig Harbor, Wash., Helene (Carlos) Cuellar, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Kathy (Karlyle) Erickson, Rugby; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, extended family; and special employees and friends.
Arlen was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Deryl and Floyd.
