George M. Trout, 78, Pennsy mechanic
George M. Trout, 78, of 319 Frogtown Road, Marticville, died Saturday morning in the emergency room at Lancaster General Hospital after a long illness.
Trout was a chief mechanic for the Pennsylvania Railroad, retiring in 1976 after 43 years.
He and his wife, Geneva D. Appel Trout, were married 56 years on Oct. 19.
A 54-year member of Marticville United Methodist Church, Trout was a former Sunday school superintendent and teacher and, for many years, the cemetery caretaker.
Trout was past president of the Tucquan Lions Club and belonged to the Rawlinsville Camp Meeting Association; Washington Lodge 156, Free & Accepted Masons of Quarryville; the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection; and the Harrisburg Consistory.
He enjoyed camping, crafts, hunting and fishing.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Born in Drumore Township, he was a son of the late Maris R. and Elsie Wimer Trout.
Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Nancy E., wife of Jay Warren Smith of Mount Joy, Marie L. Swearingen of Marticville and Donna., wife of Richard R. Detwiler, and Betty J., wife of Lester R. Graver, both of Conestoga; three brothers, Joseph of Lincoln University, Charles of Westfield and Maris of Quarryville; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
