Mr. Sachs was born in Baltimore, October 18, 1853, the son of John and Magdalena (Heintz) Sachs. He moved from Baltimore to Gettysburg, from which place he moved to Waynesboro about 30 years ago.
While in Waynesboro he became widely known throughout Franklin County and nearby sections as a contractor and builder.
He was a member of the Waynesboro Lutheran Church and took an active part in all the religious functions of the church as long as his health permitted. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church at Two Taverns, Adams County, where he served in the office of Sunday School Superintendant for 22 years.
For the last five years he has been living retired.
Mr. Sachs had been bedfast for the last 26 months, following a stroke while attending a picnic at Caledonia Park.
His wife Sarah M. (Patterson) Sachs died three years ago. He was the last of a family of eight children.
He is survived by the following children; Emory E., Gettysburg; Miss Mary Ellen and Miss Naomi at home; William J., Gettysburg; Mrs W H Ripple, Waynesboro; Charles A., Waynesboro; Luther I., Gettysburg. Seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at at the house at 2 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Clarence Neal, pastor of the Lutheran Church, Chambersburg. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
The body may be viewed at the home between the hours of 7 and 9 this evening.
