Donald was a graduate of Milan High School, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan with his master's degree. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and the Philippines during World War II. In 1988 he retired from the Tecumseh Public Schools teaching and serving as Junior High School Principal for 37 years. He was a lifetime member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association, served on the Tecumseh School Board and was a member of the Episcopal Church.
