Robert E. Hageman, 76, of Hampshire, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000 in Bethany Healthcare Center, DeKalb.
    He was born Aug. 17, 1924 in Elgin, the son of Earl and Ruth (Mapes) Hageman.
    He was a 1942 graduate of Elgin High School and then served in the Army Air Forces during WWII. He married Barbara Brown and they lived in Phoenix, Ariz. where Bob was a construction supervisor overseeing the building of schools and hospitals. He also assisted the Air Force Reserves in Search and Rescue for nearly 20 years. Following his wife's death in 1966, he moved back to Elgin where he worked for the Kane County Building Dept. for a short time. He then began a career as an independent contractor, building homes until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 57 of Elgin.
    Survivors include his wife, Irene (Schramm) Brettschneider Hageman, whom he married Jan. 22, 1971; two daughters, Donna Rogers of Phoenix, Ariz. and Ann Hageman of Daly City, Calif.; two step-sons, John (Bonnie) Brettschneider of Burlington and Edwin (Genice) Brettschneider of Hampshire; eight grandchildren, Stewart "Scott", Christopher and Anthony Rogers, Jamie, Britany and Tracy Brettschneider andDaniel and Jenna Brettschneider; and a great granddaughter, Sandi Smith.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; and a step-son, Frank Brettschneider.
    Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire, the Rev. James Ilten officiating. Burial will be in the Plato Center Cemetery.
    Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday in the funeral home.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church of Burlington or to the Burlington Lions Club.
